O.P. Competitiveness Actions to Upgrade Human Resources

The Operational Programme provides important opportunities to businesses in processing, services and commerce to upgrade their human resources.

The Operational Programme actions to upgrade human resources in the sectors of processing, services and commerce are as follows:

Training of human resources of businesses which have implemented investments in technological and organizational modernization.

Training of young people, women and disabled individuals who have embarked on entrepreneurial activity in the last two years.

Tourism
O.P. Competitiveness Actions to Upgrade Human Resources

The upgrading of the knowledge and skills of businessmen and employees in tourism businesses is a necessary condition for the qualitative upgrading of the services offered, for improving the competitiveness of tourism businesses and for maintaining employment and creating new jobs.

The Programme contains the following actions to achieve these objectives:

In-house training of employees of tourism businesses.
The action is directed at hotels of C Category and above, at businesses engaged in operating special tourism infrastructure facilities (conference centers, ski centers, thalassotherapy centers, marinas etc.) and businesses engaged in alternative forms of tourism.

Training of employees and businessmen in tourism SMEs and micro-enterprises.
The action is intended for SMEs and micro-enterprises in the tourism sector, such as those running accommodation not covered by the Development Act (Law 2601/98) and other tourism businesses not covered by the in-house training action.

O.P. Competitiveness Actions to Upgrade Human Resources

In the area of research and technology human resources are the key factor in raising the profile of our country in the international R&T arena and in exploiting the new knowledge generated by research.

The O.P. Competitiveness is making an effective contribution to expanding and upgrading the country’s research and technology resources, increasing the number of researchers in the production sector and promoting the interdisciplinary approach to economic and social affairs. This contribution is being made through the following actions:

Programme to support research personnel (PENED).
The action is directed at the teaching and research personnel of universities, technical colleges and research centers and institutes. It involves the implementation of research projects with the participation or cooperation of businesses - which will lead to the education of young researchers and the preparation of doctoral theses.

Placing of research personnel in businesses (IRON).
The action targets businesses in the public or private sector which are developing, or wish to develop, research activities.

Incorporation of researchers from abroad (ENTER).
This action is intended for universities, technical colleges, research centers and institutes and their teaching and research staff. It is designed to attract foreign researchers to Greece, to work on research projects being implemented with the involvement or cooperation of businesses.

Creation of human networks.
This action seeks to establish a channel of communication and cooperation between academic, research and business agencies by setting up networks whose main purpose will be the timely training of researchers, scientists, students, business managers and opinion makers in aspects of advanced technology and its impact on production and the meeting of society’s needs.
