07/07/2005 Meeting: “The position of the Public Power Corporation (PPC) and its further development in the new competitive environment”

Representing development minister Dimitris Sioufas at the meeting on the topic “The position of the Public Power Corporation (PPC) and its further development in the new competitive environment”, special secretary for competitiveness Spiros Efstathopoulos welcomed the PPC’s initiative in the framework of Competitiveness Year.

He stressed the importance of increasing the competitiveness of the company, so that it will be in a position to respond to the needs of the international economic environment, and referred in detail to the projects carried out by the PPC in the framework of the Operational Programme for Competitiveness.

The Minister for Development, Mr Dimitris Sioufas, proposed two energy projects for study and financed construction under the Operational Programme for Competitiveness.

  1. The building of a second line to connect the electricity transmission grids of Greece and Italy with an undersea cable similar to that which exists already, for the transmission of 500MW of current on both sides.
  2. Proposal for the 400kV transmission line from Kavala to the Greek-Turkish border, to interconnect the two countries’ grids.
